CIPD qualifications UK FAQs
Your questions, answered clearly.
Key information about choosing a level, online learning, assessment, duration and professional progression.
Which CIPD qualification should I choose?+
Level 3 is generally suited to people starting in HR or L&D, Level 5 to established practitioners and managers, and Level 7 to experienced professionals moving towards strategic leadership. Bradfield can assess your experience before enrolment.
Can I study a CIPD qualification online in the UK?+
Yes. Bradfield provides flexible online study options designed to fit around work. Available delivery modes vary by qualification and intake.
Do I need CIPD Level 3 before Level 5?+
Not necessarily. Relevant HR, L&D or people-management experience may make you suitable for Level 5 without completing Level 3 first.
How long do CIPD qualifications take?+
Duration depends on the level and delivery route. Bradfield Level 5 is commonly structured over approximately 10 months, while CIPD gives typical guidance of 16–24 months for an Advanced Diploma. Confirm the exact schedule for your intake.
Are CIPD qualifications assessed by exams?+
Bradfield CIPD qualifications are assessed through written assignments and applied activities rather than traditional sit-down examinations.
Is CIPD Level 7 a Master’s degree?+
No. The CIPD Advanced Diploma is a professional qualification positioned at RQF Level 7, the same framework level as postgraduate study, but it is not itself a Master’s degree.
What membership can I obtain?+
Membership outcomes depend on the qualification. Successful completion of a CIPD Associate or Advanced Diploma leads to Associate Membership. Further progression towards Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow depends on professional experience and CIPD’s applicable assessment route.
Can my employer fund my CIPD qualification?+
Many employers support role-relevant professional development. Bradfield can provide course information for an internal funding request; approval and funding arrangements remain your employer’s decision.
