Is Level 5 right for you?

Build on your people-practice experience.

Level 5 is designed for professionals ready to develop more independent, evidence-based practice. Consider your responsibilities and learning needs, not just your job title.

Discuss your readiness

Bradfield can review your relevant workplace experience, prior learning and study goals to help you choose the right level.

  • Experience you can draw on in assignments
  • Readiness for research and analytical writing
  • Suitable written and spoken English
  • Time for classes and independent study

A degree or five years of experience should not be assumed to be a universal prerequisite. Confirm the current admissions criteria with an advisor.

What you will learn

Shared professional foundations. Specialist application.

Both pathways develop evidence-based professional practice. Their specialist content then supports different workplace responsibilities.

SHARED FOUNDATION

Organisational context

Explore the relationship between organisational performance, culture and people practice.

SHARED FOUNDATION

Evidence and behaviours

Develop professional behaviours and use evidence to inform decisions.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

HR practice

Apply your learning to employment relationships, talent, workforce planning and reward.

ORGANISATIONAL L&D

Learning capability

Explore learning needs, design, facilitation and approaches to employee development.

These are topic summaries, not the full unit list. Visit your chosen pathway page for its syllabus and available optional units.

Learning and assessment

Live teaching. Practical application.

Join interactive online sessions and deepen your understanding through independent reading, workplace reflection and assignments.

01 / STRUCTURE

Live online classes

Learn with tutors and peers through scheduled sessions, discussion and collaborative activities. This is not an entirely self-paced programme.

02 / APPLICATION

Unit assignments

Develop reasoned answers using evidence and relevant workplace examples. Plan time for research, writing and feedback.

03 / SUPPORT

Guidance throughout study

Discuss the included tutor support, recording access, feedback arrangements and resubmission policy before enrolment.

Career development

Strengthen your professional contribution.

Build confidence in analysing workplace challenges and recommending practical improvements. Career progression depends on experience, opportunities and performance—not the qualification alone.

Develop your specialist capability

Apply HR or L&D knowledge to your current responsibilities and prepare for broader professional contribution.

Progress to Associate Membership

Completing an Associate Diploma leads to Associate Membership of the CIPD. Confirm membership fees and arrangements before enrolment.

Consider future advanced study

As your strategic experience grows, discuss whether CIPD Level 7 aligns with your next career step.

Frequently asked questions

Plan your Level 5 journey with clarity.

Which CIPD Level 5 pathway should I choose?

Choose People Management if your responsibilities focus on HR, employee relations, resourcing and reward. Choose Organisational Learning and Development if your work focuses on learning design, employee development and organisational capability.

Can I study CIPD Level 5 without Level 3?

Level 3 is not automatically a prerequisite for every applicant. Bradfield can assess your relevant experience, prior learning and readiness for Level 5 assignments to help identify the appropriate starting point.

Do I need a degree or five years of HR experience?

Do not assume either is a universal requirement. Suitability depends on your workplace responsibilities, relevant knowledge and readiness for analytical writing. Ask Bradfield to assess your background and confirm its current admissions requirements.

How much does CIPD Level 5 cost in the UK?

Request a current GBP quotation for your chosen pathway. Ask for the full price, any applicable tax, instalment terms, membership fees and assessment or resubmission charges so you can compare the total cost.

When are the live classes?

Your selected cohort determines the timetable. Before enrolling, request the class days and times in UK local time, including any changes between GMT and BST, plus attendance and recording arrangements.

How long does CIPD Level 5 take?

Teaching duration and qualification completion time are not necessarily the same. Your final completion date depends on the cohort schedule, assignment deadlines and any resubmissions. Ask for both the teaching timetable and the expected assessment completion window.

How many hours should I study each week?

Plan for live classes, reading, research and assignment writing. Workload varies across the programme and usually increases near assessment deadlines. Ask your advisor for a pathway-specific weekly study plan before committing.

How are learners assessed and supported?

You demonstrate your learning through unit assignments. Live online teaching is supported by independent study and assignment guidance. Confirm the included tutor contact, feedback process, resubmission rules and support period for your cohort.

What is CIPD Level 5 equivalent to?

The Associate Diplomas are RQF Level 5 in England and Northern Ireland, and CQFW Level 5 in Wales. This is the level of qualifications such as an HND or foundation degree, but it is not the same qualification or a completed bachelor’s degree. Framework comparisons differ in Scotland.

What CIPD membership does Level 5 lead to?

Successful completion leads to Associate Membership of the CIPD. Ask Bradfield which membership costs are included in the course fee and which are payable separately. Level 5 does not itself award Chartered status.

Can my employer pay for the course?

Discuss employer sponsorship with your manager and request a course quotation and invoicing information from Bradfield. Confirm funding approval before enrolling.
