This week we attended the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) International conference at the World Trade Center in Dubai. The event played host to a number of speakers in the field of HR on topics which centred on the theme of The Future of HR and its Role in Transforming Governmental Capabilities.

Speakers at the event included the HR Director (Arabian Peninsula & Pakistan) at Proctor & Gamble, Senior Vice President and CHRO (MENA) of Pepsico, the Chief HR Officer (Middle East and Africa) at Marriott International and Director of HR & Localisation (MENA) at Al-Futtaim Group as well as representatives from the CIPD to name a few.

The conference was held over four days with the large part of seminars taking place over the middle two days on topics such as ‘Talent in a World of Change and its impact on the Public Sector,’ ‘Unlocking competitive advantage through managing talent and diversity,’ ‘Effective talent management strategies in changing and growing markets,’ and ‘Creating the next generation of Human Capital; Cultivating leaders of tomorrow, today’.

The event was attended by some 400 delegates from a cross section of public sector organisations. It was great to see and hear that HR is now being seen as much more of a strategic role across the region.  Organisations are really starting to think about the role HR can play not only today but going forwards.  Our team found that there is a real appetite to gain the best qualifications possible not only to grow professionally but to expand and build upon people’s knowledge within the profession.  We hope to see this trend continue over the next few years, recognising HR as a function which deserves to have a more strategic input in growing businesses and ultimately their people.
