The CIPD Level 5 provides a comprehensive understanding of HRM principles and practices, including strategic leadership, organisational development, employee engagement, and employment law.
The CIPD Level 5 is a professional qualification in Human Resource Management (HRM) awarded by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). This qualification is designed to develop the skills and knowledge of HR professionals at a middle-level management position.
The CIPD Level 5 provides a comprehensive understanding of HRM principles and practices, including strategic leadership, organisational development, employee engagement, and employment law. The course is divided into two parts: the core modules and the optional modules.
The duration of the CIPD Level 5 qualification varies depending on the mode of study and the learning provider. Typically, the course takes around 12 to 18 months to complete on a part time basis. The course can be taken as a mix of classroom and on-line learning or online at scheduled times and with assignments but no exams.
Some learning providers offer flexible study options, allowing learners to complete the course at their own pace. However, it is important to note that learners are required to complete the qualification within five years of registration with the CIPD and with Bradfield we expect completion within two years.
CIPD Level 5 is considered to be a challenging qualification for many individuals. It requires a significant amount of time and effort to complete successfully. The course covers a wide range of topics related to the context of human resources such as organisational performance & culture in practice, professional behaviours and business decision making including critical thinking and decision making and measuring the impact of HR on the business.
As well as these contextual topics, there are units covering more traditional HR subjects such as employment law and employee relations, and talent management.
The coursework is detailed and requires a thorough understanding of the subject matter. Additionally, students are expected to apply their knowledge in practical settings, which can be demanding. However, with dedication, hard work, and a strong support system, many thousands of individuals worldwide have successfully completed the CIPD Level 5 qualification and advanced their careers in HR.
Technically, it is possible to do the CIPD Level 5 qualification without completing the CIPD Level 3 qualification. While it can be done, those undertaking Level 5 without studying at Level 3 first should have considerable HR work experience.
Having the foundation knowledge obtained through the CIPD Level 3 or equivalent is valuable when studying for the CIPD Level 5 qualification although it is not essential.
It is usual to pursue CIPD Level 5 while working full-time, but it can be quite challenging. The course requires a significant amount of time and effort, and balancing work commitments alongside studying can put a strain on personal and professional life. However, many students have successfully managed to complete the course through effective time management, self-discipline, and support from their employer and loved ones.
A level 5 CIPD qualification connects you with your peers and gives you the strategies you need to increase your knowledge and skills to boost your career and earnings potential and make a real impact.
It is essential to plan and prioritise tasks and ensure that there is a healthy work-study-life balance. Additionally, studying while working can offer opportunities to apply newly acquired knowledge in the workplace, which can benefit both personal and professional growth. It is important to discuss the course requirements with the employer and seek their support to make the journey more manageable.
