If you have been in a people's profession for a while, you probably already know what CIPD is. However, if you are new to the world of HR and people development, you might not know this term at all. Let's first talk about what CIPD is before we get to the three stages of CIPD qualifications.
Short for 'Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, CIPD is an independent professional association for HR and L&D professionals in the UK and worldwide. For the last 100 years, CIPD has improved work and working life for those in HR and L&D roles by providing guidance and training. How do they do that? Through courses, qualifications, and memberships.
The CIPD's qualifications are the globally recognised professional standard for HR and L&D specialists working across private, public, and voluntary sectors. These qualifications cover:
- People Practice,
- People management
- Learning and Development.
It is the only HR or L&D professional body to be chartered and as one of the oldest HR associations worldwide, CIPD has over 160,000 members.
How Does a CIPD Qualification and Membership Help You?
A CIPD qualification expands your knowledge and skills in various aspects of HR such as talent management, workforce planning, employment law and reward for performance. It also helps you in the following ways:
- It broadens your career prospects
- Makes you eligible for a higher salary than your peers
- Makes you eligible for a position where the employer requires a CIPD accreditation.
- Proves your commitment to your professional development.
A CIPD certification lets employers and recruiters know that your skills and industry knowledge are up-to-date and you understand your work. It also helps you gain access to a wealth of research, insights and resources. For example policy reports, interactive tools, factsheets, and more.
What are the Three Levels of CIPD Qualifications?
